Our process for storing files

While strong safeguards are in place to prevent unauthorized access to the users' data, iShare should not be considered to be HIPAA compliant. We discourage storing PHI or uploading other sensitive information files to the iShare site.

TouchChat vocabulary files are unencrypted binary files located on a device running TouchChat or a computer running Chat Editor.

Vocabulary files may be uploaded to the iShare server, using either the TouchChat app or the iShare web page, via an encrypted connection (HTTPS).

When the upload to the server is complete, the files are transferred to Amazon cloud storage (S3) also using HTTPS. After the transfer to Amazon S3 has been verified, the file is deleted from the iShare server.

Files stored in Amazon S3 are encrypted using AES256 encryption as described on this page under the section titled Server-Side Encryption with Amazon S3-Managed Keys (SSE-S3).

User access to stored files is only available through HTTPS connections which are time-limited.

Each time a file is downloaded, a unique URL is generated and cryptographically signed. Each unique URL is only valid for a predetermined interval (5 minutes) and cannot be used once it has expired. These URLs can only be generated by the iShare server.

When a file is downloaded from Amazon S3, it is first decrypted and then transferred directly to the device or computer via HTTPS.

A user cannot see other users' files unless the file was marked as being publicly accessible or included in a group.

User access to the iShare server is controlled by user name / password pairs on both the device and the iShare web site.

Administrative access to the server is limited to IT/web employee of PRC-Saltillos and is controlled by user name / security key pairs.

We attempt to take all reasonable precautions to safeguard any customer information.

File Retention

Once your account has expired, the files you have stored on the iShare server will not be accessible until you renew your subscription.

If you choose to not renew your subscription, your files will be deleted according to our retention policy:

  • If you have a Free Trial account, your files will be retained for 3 months
  • If you have an Individual account, your files will be retained for 6 months
  • If you have a Team account, your files will be retained for 6 months

All files will be automatically deleted at the end of the retention period.

An active iShare subscription is required to access any stored files.
